attributed to Benedetto MONTAGNA (Vicenza 1481 - 1555 or 58) "San Giovanni Battista" Original woodcut with the monogram "b M °" at the bottom left just above the engraved frame, it is a typographic brand inserted on the frontispiece of the work of Lucius Caecilius Firmianus Lactantius "Habes in hoc v olum ine lector optim e diuina Lactantii Firm iani opera nuper ..." published in Venice by Giovanni Tacuino in 1509. Beautiful copy printed on thin laid paper apparently without watermark, with the usual transparency of the text on the verso, slightly burnished and with some foxing points, a pencil inscription on the lower edge of the front and one on the back, overall in excellent general condition. Bibliography: Milesi "Dictionary of Engravers" Bergamo 1989 pages 231 and 232 and for the bibliography page 32. Ris-Paquot "Dictionnaire Encyclopedique des Marques & Monogrammes" Brussels 1997 page 72 n ° 1605. For a note on this typographic brand, see www.sssub.unibo.it/master/illibroantico/marca/santi Measurements in mm: 305 x 200 (the sheet)
